Background Bangladesh Ministry Of Defense:

Department of Defense and Armed Forces Division, two separate ministries/divisions. Honorable Prime Minister is appointed as the acting minister of the Defense Ministry. On the other hand, the Armed Forces Division is placed under the direct supervision of Honorable Prime Minister.

Soon after the liberation, the Ministry of Defense started functioning at the Bangladesh Secretariat in late December 1971. The country's first defense minister was the Prime Minister of the nation, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. In 1972, the ministry was transferred to the High Court building and 14 organizations/departments were brought under the ministry. In 1976, Civil Aviation Directorate was formed by the Ministry of Defense, excluding the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism. In 1982, the organizational structure of the ministry was reorganized with 21 branches. After the formation of the Ministry of War of Liberation, after the formation of the two branches, the number of the Defense Ministry's 19 departments is now being transferred to newly created Ministry of Liberation War.

The Armed Forces Division has reached the present state through various changes. In December 1978 the Commander-in-Chief Secretariat was established under the Defense Ministry and later in 1987, it was renamed Supreme Command Headquarters. In 1989, by establishing some operational and administrative activities as part of the changes and reconstruction process of the Ministry of Defense, an independent division was formed by the Supreme Command Headquarters Division. In 1991, the name of the Supreme Command Headquarters division was renamed as Armed Forces Division and the organizational and administrative structure of the Armed Forces Division got its present form. Currently, an officer of the army's rank of lieutenant general is appointed as Principal Staff Officer in the Armed Forces Division.

In order to contribute to the formation of a happy and prosperous Bangladesh through technological excellence, timely action-oriented and realistic and long-term work planning, various inter-governmental and civilian departments/organizations / organizations are working with sincerity and devotion under the Defense Ministry and Armed Forces Division.

Functions of the Ministry of Defense:
